Hans J Wegner was born April 2nd 1914 in Tønder, Denmark. You may know him as a world renowned designer ,an icon of mid-century furniture and now considered one of the ‘Godfathers’ of design. Sadly he passed away in January 2007 so we have to celebrate his 100th birthday for him.
He changed the way we looked at design and furniture in the 50’s and 60’s and even to this day his designs look as modern as any new designer out there. His approach to design celebrated traditional craftsmanship, minimal forms and organic shapes. His portfolio was incredible impressive with collaborations with Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller, became a member of The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Art in London among many other prizes. Many of his manufacturers are still around today with his chairs pride of place, Carl Hansen & Sons, Fritz Hansen to name a few. My favourite chair chas to be the Wishbone chair.

To honor this great man I’m giving my adopted cat Hansel the same birthday date (as we have no idea when it is), so happy birthday Hansel!
